The Little Black Box

People are concerned that cell phones, mobile, wireless devices, computers and other Wi-Fi technology may have the potential to cause certain types of cancer or other health problems.  The technology is expanding at a rapid rate.  According to Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association, there are more than 327.5 million cell phone subscribers in the United States.  Globally it is estimated at five billion.

Device technology has improved resulting in lower electromagnetic signal output.  However, with long consumers increasing their length of time, on cell phones and computers, some are experiencing health related symptoms.  Routers and wall plug adapters, the little black box, give off radiation. Tissues nearest to the source can absorb this energy.

Electromagnetic field radiation (EMFs) is produced by all electronics. Due to the increasing exposure, some people attribute their health concerns to EMFs.  People are experiencing headaches, hot flashes, jitteriness, the hot ear after using a cell phone, stiffness, pain, moodiness, anxiety, racing thoughts, immune system problems, and physical discomfort to the effects of the electromagnetic field (EMF) output of wireless devices.

Protection Products

Electromagnetic field (EMFs) protection is rising. The industry has created a host of protective products designed to limit any EMF effects on the body. Personal shielding and deflecting choices are many.  The EMF protection device transmutes electromagnetic fields into a harmless state which keep our bodies safe.  The reasoning is that by connecting the body to the Earth any negative EMF effects will be prevented.  Some products include:

  • Floor mats
  • Bracelets, wrist straps
  • Grounding bed pads, sheets
  • Energy pendants, necklaces,
  • Flip flops shoes for the feet
  • Aluminum wall foil, mesh or fabric shielding applications
  • Grounding mouse pads, plugs for electrical wall socket
  • Install filters inside and outside grounding rod, transformer
  • Acupuncture

Other schools of thought say that effective EMR protection devices should be on the phone with grounding technologies, wireless protection tools, and gadgets to protect ourselves from EMFs.  For example, shields for the ear piece, cell phone, pyramid cubes, and balls. This is recommended in combination with effective body protection and grounding solutions; to protect against the radiation from billions of cell phone calls, satellite, EMR, towers etcetera that goes through our body 24/7.

Bogus Science

There is another school of thought that EMFs protection is pure and utter hogwash. The United States Federal Trade Commission published the following:

Bogus science exists because people wish to take advantage of others and make some quick money. Do not fall victim. Fear is not a good reason to do or purchase anything. There are ways to control the amount and intensity for electromagnetic emissions from our cell phone without spending more money.

Sadly, the FTC reports that shields have not been proven to effectively minimize EMR waves. Devices that impede signals from the earpiece or any other portion of the phone do not work. This is because electromagnetic waves are released from the complete cell phone. In addition, they have found that more radiation may be attracted to the phone. This is due to interfering signals hitting the cell phone.

Practical Guide

Get yourself unplugged! Take a day or night off from any and all devices.  The United States Food and Drug Administration and consumers suggest taking steps to reduce exposure to radiofrequency energy.

  • Reserve the use of cell phones for shorter conversations
  • Use a landline phone whenever possible
  • Place more distance between the phone and the head
  • Use a device with hands-free technology, such as wired headsets,
  • Use hands-free kits
  • Unplug everything at night that is not needed.

In summary, the effect of mobile phone radiation on human health is a subject of interest and study worldwide.  There are no easy solutions. The mounting information continues as technology and research advances.
